Q: What is the processing time for Indian passport reissue?
A: The passport will be issued after confirming the applicant's Police Verification Record (PVR) in the Consulate's system. In the absence of PVR status in the system, the case will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities in India for clearance. The processing time for a police registration certificate depends on the availability of a clear PVR form to the relevant authorities in India.
The normal passport processing time is 3 weeks.
If the Police Verification Report (PVR) is unclear or pending, the processing time will be approximately 30 days or more (excluding VFS processing time). Q: What are the various passport services offered by the Consulate through VFS Global?
A: We are offering the following passport services:
- Issuance of New Passport:You can apply for a new passport if you are applying for the first time (for example, Indian parents can register the birth of their US-born child at the Consulate and then apply for a new passport through VFS Global).
- Reissue of Passport:You can apply for a passport reissue if you want another passport instead of an existing passport for any of the following reasons:

Q: How many pages does a common Indian passport booklet contain?
A: A regular passport has a blue cover and consists of 36 or 60 pages. It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
Q: I am an Indian passport holder and my passport is valid for less than 6 months. Can I travel with this passport?
A: For any international travel, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months, therefore you cannot travel with this passport.

B. MINOR
Q: What is the definition of minor for passport issuance?
A: Applicants under the age of 18 are considered minors for passport issuance.
Q: How long would a minor's passport be valid?
A: The validity of a minor's passport is limited to five years or until the minor turns 18, whichever comes first. But minors between the ages of 15 and 18 can apply for a passport valid for 10 years or a passport valid for up to 18 years. Different fees apply depending on the requested category.
Q: Is it true that passport application for minors under 18 requires the consent of both parents or legal guardian?
A: Parent/legal guardian consent is required when applying for a minor's passport. The following documents must be presented in the indicated cases:

A: Yes, a certified copy of Exhibit D with both parents' signatures must be submitted with the application. If one of the parents does not consent, the parent applying for the minor's passport must present Appendix C.
Q: I want to apply for a passport for my 12 month old son. Can I order a 60-page brochure?
A: No. Only 36-page passports are issued to minors.

D. EXPIRED VALIDITY
Q: My passport expired 4 years ago. Can it be reissued? What is the procedure to reissue it?
A: Visit the VFS Global website (https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind/apply-passport) and apply online for "Passport Reissue" under the Expired Passport category. After applying online, send the printed copy of the application submitted along with the required documents to the VFS Global Center by mail.
Q: What are the additional requirements if the passport expired more than three years ago?
A: A new police check will be done if you apply for a passport reissue after your previous passport expired more than three years ago. The processing time depends on the availability of a clear police verification report from the relevant authority in India. Applicants must clearly indicate their Indian address with the correct Police Station, District and Phone Number for Police clearance and verification to go smoothly.
Q: I'm 25 now, but my last passport was issued when I was 15. What should I do?

Q: What is the definition of a damaged passport?
A: The damaged passport is further classified according to the extent of the damage, i.e.:
- Passport number is legible, name is legible and photo is intact
- Damaged beyond recognition/mangled/entries smeared/erased
Q: What is the procedure for requesting a duplicate passport in case of lost or damaged passport?
A: To apply for a duplicate passport in case of a lost or damaged passport, you must apply for the "Reissue" passport instead of the Lost/Damaged Passport category through VFS Global. Q: I lost my Indian passport in San Francisco, how can I get my passport reissued?
- Loss of passport should be immediately reported to the nearest police station and a police complaint report obtained. A: The new passport will have a new passport number, valid for 10 years.

A: Additional pages are not added to a passport booklet. You will receive a new passport.
Q: My passport expires in 2 years. What do I have to do?
A: You can apply for a new passport issue up to 1 year before it expires.Owithin three years of expiry of the existing passport without further police verification, provided there are no changes to personal details and there is a clear police report on the old passport and there is no adverse entry into the system. You can also apply for a passport reissue if your previous passport expired more than three years ago, but a new police check would be done.
